Dr. Dave F. Berg, Redirect Health
Co-founder and Chairman of the Board
Dr. David Berg opened his first healthcare clinic in 1997. He had no idea how to run it. He had just moved from Canada and didn’t have any experience in the U.S. healthcare system. In his first year in business, he nearly went broke and basically treated people for free. The only way out, he discovered, was to ask the people around him and his customers what to do. And they told him. They didn’t like being put on hold, parking in the back, having to wait too long to be seen and they certainly didn’t like copays.
Dr. Berg’s journey started there in 1997, but what led him to arrive where he is today? That’s a story you will want to hear from Dr. Berg, himself. AzBL is pleased to welcome Dr. David Berg, Co-founder and Chairman of the Board for Redirect Health, as our esteemed speaker, April 5, 2018.
Redirect Health has a straightforward purpose—to strengthen business by making healthcare easy and truly affordable for everyone in a company. Redirect Health was started by Dr. Berg, his wife Dr. Janice Johnston, and Paul Johnson (yes, the former Mayor of Phoenix!), with this one purpose and goal in mind. With a pioneering spirit for health plan redesign, cost redirection and a passion to re-examine and improve the conventional healthcare model, Redirect Health has grown exponentially in a short time and now this Arizona company helps over 400 business owners, and more than 7000 of their employees and their families in 45 states.
Redirect Health has become a national leader in healthcare innovation by simplifying traditionally complex systems that most believed could not be changed. With deliberate and strategic, outside-of-the-box thinking, Redirect Health has successfully eliminated so much of the waste and unnecessary administration, and streamlined care to create the types of efficiency everyone wants. Dr. Berg’s own company’s healthcare costs are among the lowest in the nation, a key factor that has enabled him to provide free healthcare to all his employees and their families for less than a third of market rates. He is so passionate about helping CEO’s offer healthcare for truly affordable costs to their employees, Dr. Berg wrote The Business Owners Guide to Fighting Healthcare – a how-to guide that teaches business owners to leverage healthcare as a competitive advantage.
Redirect Health is the product of Dr. Berg’s 20 years of work in healthcare clinics; the ups and downs, the lessons learned. Stumbling blocks along the way only fueled the fire for more change. Learn what happened in 2006 when Dr. Berg identified a critical error in the design of the business, what he did to recover declining margins, what inspired a fundamental shift in the business to separate healthcare fromhealth insurance, and why Dr. Berg believes a self-funded insurance funding model is the right answer in today’s healthcare environment. Learn about his commonsense process to deliver affordable healthcare and much more when Dr. Berg shares his compelling story with AzBL April 5.
A recognized business leader, the Phoenix-based Dr. Berg was honored with The Phoenix Business Journal Healthcare Heroes Innovator award in 2017. With his unique leadership approach and passion to re-examine the contemporary healthcare model, Dr. Berg is accomplishing what many said couldn’t be done in today’s healthcare environment. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from a Valley healthcare leader who is truly making a big impact.
